Weekeeeeeend!

Just have to go to Satwa (for the 4th time this week) to finish up some stuff with textiles & outfits for the upcoming event.. and then Im officially on weekend!

Yesterday, finished work at 9.30 pm. (same as the day before) Went to Radisson rooftop with Gabin, Mathieu, Stephane, Nicole and her German buddies. Decided to go to the Apartment where they had eighties & rnb/house music. Stayed until 2-ish and went home to sleep.

Tonight, drinks at Nicole's place with the Germans (hmm isnt that in a movie?) and the Frenchies. And then.......?

Tomorrow is the famous "Swedish-people-night-out". I mean, not FAMOUS people, just FAMOUS night :) Looking forward to that!

Did I mention that Ramadan is over?

Le vieux rock au mambo bidon

I remember my first CD. I got it as a gift when I was 10 years old from my father who had just been in Paris over the weekend. I had no idea who the girl on the cover was. But once I put the CD in the stereo, I was in love with the music coming out from the speakers. I listened to it so much that I could sing along with her (without knowing what the words meant).

Vanessa Paradis was my idol for several years after that. And I still know the lyrics by heart from that CD.

Maybe that's where my attraction to France began? Maybe I'm destined to end up in France...

What I do know is that I still have that CD.
It's waiting for me in France.

chill out

So whats happening in Dubai at the moment.

Well. Ramadan in soon over. The public holidays Eid al Fitr is coming up. Most of the companies close, and people have around 2-3 days vacation. However, with all the work we have at the moment, it looks like we are working over the holiday. Although it WOULD be nice to have one or two days off Im not complaining. The projects that we have going on right now are really interesting.

The part of my job that I like is creating the concepts for the different events that we do. Normally we get a brief from the client with information of the event, and what their objectives are. And from that we have a team that brainstorms ideas with everything from entertainment, decoration, hostesses costumes etc..

Right now we are planning a launch of a real estate that is taking place in the month of November. Last week we did all the film shootings for the event, and for the show. I got a little insight in the tv-production industry (which was really cool). I took care of the logistics, what we needed for the different scenes, the models, makeup and hair, and also what the models were going to wear.

For the weekends, well, the same as always, except that during Ramadan there are no nightclubs open. It's pretty cool though, more chilled out, drinking at different bars. Changes a bit. Yesterday we went to have Iftar at Ali Baba, a restaurant close to Dubai Marine. Mostly locals, Maroccan and Indians. Nice to see other places than 5 star hotels & expats. (No offence people) Went to a libanese restaurant to have some cocktails, then Tradervicks, and to finish off house party in the springs.

Tonight maybe cinema or dvd at the house after this hectic work week.
Nice to chill for a change..

hahaha

Sorry Ed. I just had to steal this one.. (Its my favourite)

A turkey was chatting with a bull.
"I would love to be able to Get to the top of that
tree," sighed the turkey, "but I haven't got the energy."
"Well, why don't you nibble on my droppings?" replied the bull.
"They're packed with nutrients."
The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that
it gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree.
The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch.
Finally after a fourth night, there he was proudly perched at the top of the tree.
Soon he was spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey
out of the tree.

Moral of the story: Bullshit might get you to the top but it won't keep you there.

Tess (my sister) left the other day. She stayed for 10 days here in Dubai...
On Friday we decided to go to Wild Wadi, the water park next to Burj Al Arab. My sister loves waterparks.. And I.. well, let me put it this way, I avoid the most dangerous ones..

However, she forced me to go on the steepest one. (You can see it on the photo above and on the left hand side) After running around the whole day, we went with some Frenchies to Jebel Ali Beach to have BBQ.
Next day we went to Tradervics at Madinat Jumeirah to celebrate my sister's birthday. Waiting for Tess to send me her pictures. (Hint hint)

Happy B-day M!

Yesterday it was Mathieu's birthday. Although it was ramadan.. we went to Tradervicks to have some drinks. My present to him was Camel...

Camel obviously had a good time. (and so did I)

...

There's a lady who's sure
All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven.
There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook
There's a songbird who sings,

Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.

Sluta le for fan..

Had a great weekend.

Thursday
Started out with Dinner at La Rotisserie at Royal Mirage, quick check at the Roof top bar. Shopping at the tech souq where I sort of screamed at a salesman who tried to rob my father (not literally). Went to the Gold Souq and looked at all the bling bling. (Sometimes the arabic jewellery is just too much.) Nice to come back to the hotel after a day running around.

Friday
Shopping and lunch at Mall of Emirates. Little irritated that almost ALL the coffee places are closed. Well, not that long before Ramadan is over. Afternoon desert safari in 4x4. My father was pale during the whole ride. I actually thought that my mother wouldnt like the safari, and that my father would love it. I guess I was wrong...

Saturday
Went to Satwa to the tailor with my sister and mother. Stopped by at Mall of Emirates (again), then coffee at Seattles Best. Dinner at Japengo at Madinat Souq. There is something that I like about that place. Madinat Souq I mean. But at the same time, I dont like it because I always get lost there. (One time I spent 25 minutes before I found the bar where some of my friends were)

In the evening, my parents went home to Sweden. My sister and I went back to the hotel to have a glass of wine at the rooftop bar at Radisson Sas. Not as nice as the Royal Mirage. Hmm.. Im starting to get spoiled with all the nice places here.

Really happy that my sister is staying with me for another week. I think we're going to watch Camel racing this weekend!

Pictures from the weekend coming soon!

Madinat Jumeirah

Saturday, I went to the Mall of Emirates to have a bite with Mathieu. Only 1 restaurant open in the WHOLE shopping mall. Had some nice afternoon-waffles and coffee. Went to pick up Katta at her house in Jumeirah to go to Madinat Jumeirah. By the time we arrived everyone had gotten hungry (again). Had Japanese at the Japengo restaurant.
Afterwards we went to sit on the outside by the artificial lake at the Madinat, with a stunning view of the Burj Al Arab.
One of the nicest places I've been to so far.
Though artificial.
Welcome to Dubai.

Thursday night

The night started out really calm. A nice little Pastis tranquil at the house. Here are some of the pictures............
