Sissies

My sissie is coming in a week!!!! I wish Bookie could come too. But she has to go to school.. Snyft.

Tess (on the right) has been working on a cruise ship for the last three years. She started out in the Carribeans, moved to the Mediterranean, and was just recently in the Northern part of Europe. Before the next boat, she is stopping by Dubai to visit me!

I cant wait until next week!
ps. becca du e sa jakla bajsbrun.. I cant even look at you!!

Ramadan Kareem

Tonight I'm going with the Frenchies to a Ramadan tent at either Royal Mirage or Mina A' Salam. Interesting to finally take part of some of the culture the UAE has to offer.

My first Iftar experience.

A lot of people say that there isn't a lot of culture here in Dubai since it is a pretty "new"country. But then again, culture won't come knocking on your door. So I'm taking things in my own hands from now on. Have seen that there are a lot of exhibitions going on at the moment. Nora Badanian's Deja Vu at the 5Green with a touch of Lichtenstein & Warhol, Iranian artist Golnaz Fathi at the Third Line Gallery, and Men's Nature are just some that I want to see.

Let me know if anyone wants to join.

Click here to see some nice photographs of Dubai.

Ramadan

Just remembered that I didnt write about my weekend yet.
I went to an expo called Fusion 06 at the Dubai Airport Expo. Fusion is a fashion, music and lifestyle expo. On the first day of the expo there was a lot of people. There were fashion shows, breakdancers, Djs... Though when Ramadan started on Saturday, there was no music or entertainment allowed until after Iftar.

One thing that I love about Dubai is all the people you meet. This weekend I met so many interesting people from all around the world. Kyrgyzstan, Tatar (Russia), Nepal, Uzbekistan, Palestine... I'm amazed of all their stories. However, one thing that people have in common here is the fact that Dubai is a transit point. No one seems to have roots here, nor want to have roots here. Most of the people are just staying for a couple of years to make money and then move on to another place. I still havent met someone who has said that they want to stay here...

Ramadan started on Saturday. I have to get used to the fact that drinking, eating etc. is not allowed outside until after sunset. You cant even drink water at the gym (?!?) They have designated a special area where you can drink water. I guess that I have to have a couple of days of adaption. Can't wait until this weekend, going for Iftar and sheesha in one of the Ramadan tents.

It's soon weekend!!

Yesterday after work I joined A & S at the Rooftop at the One & Only Royal Mirage. The atmohspere was really nice. The deco was very arabic influenced, with goldy colours, cushions... Had a couple of Mojitos before leaving to Movenpick hotel. There is a Thai festival going on in Dubai, and Movenpick hotel is offering a really nice Thai Buffet. Met a lot of interesting people from all corners of the world. English, American, Mexican, Syrian, Dominican, Scottish, South African, Danish, Indian... Really interesting to hear people's stories, where they are coming from, and where they are heading..

Simply just a great night.

Fangad i en javla stormvind

So how was the meeting in Abu Dhabi you might ask?

Not bad actually.
The only problem was that the AC in the car broke down on the way there. May I inform you that it was 39 degrees (in the shadow) today with a light breeze. Very light almost non-existing breeze. In pure desperation to find a cool breeze we had all 4 car windows down. I felt like Bridget Jones there for a while, first a little bit like Jackie Kennedy (with a t-shirt wrapped around my head) but ended up like Bridget in the movie.
Otherwise, except for the little Bridget-Incident, the meeting went really well. Just have to wait and see the response if they want the concept or not.
There are of couple of options for tonight. B-day party for Time Out at the Apartment, RnB night at Trilogy. Will probably pass by the Apartment for a drink with Katarina and her friends!

HelloMoto!

Motorola Event yesterday in Al-Quoz, was not bad actually! Even though the venue was a bit weird (art gallery in an industrial area (very hard to find)), and small as a shoe box, they had managed to make it pretty cool. They had made an exhibition of the new Motorola phones that people could touch and use. I fell in love with a phone with a see-through flip thing with touch screen. A lot of people, and loads of photographs there. I was literally blinded by all the flashes from the cameras. One champagne glass and some fiddling with the cell phones, the time had come for us to go home. They had managed to create a nice atmosphere but nothing
mind-blowing

Tomorrow is a big presentation day. Apparently I’m doing the presentation of our fabulous concept in front of 10 top business guys.
Wish me luck people!

Give me...

Just saw that Le Roi Soleil is playing in Lyon the 21 and 22 of April next year...!!!

Pastis?

Another weekend has passed. Again too quickly.

Thursday started off really well. Came back to the house after a looong work week. Had a nice little Mauresque (Hmm.. pastis is normally not my thing) and a little swim in the pool. And that's when it started to go downhill. We ended up staying at home, having a Soiree Lyonnaise with Quenelles, wine, and a movie.

Friday morning we went for brunch at the Ritz Carlton hotel. Good selection of food. Though a little hard eating Sushi for breakfast/brunch... 120 Dirhams was a pretty good price for what they offered I must say.

Friday evening, went with Gabin, some Frenchies and Katarina to 360 (photo). The bar is just next to the Burj Al Arab hotel, and Jumeirah beach hotel (in the background). Though it is too hot to be outside. Even in the evening. Sweaty experience that followed with even more sweat at the Apartment. Hip hop night with really good DJs on both the dance floors. I have to say that I was really happy to hear some RnB and Hip Hop after all the house/techno music that is playing at (almost) all nightclubs.

Saturday, woke up really late, went to the pool for a while and then spent rest of the day just chilling at the house. I can't wait until the temperature starts to go down so that we can do more things outside. I have a list with things I want to do before I go home. But now it is too hot to do anything really. We are practically never outside. We stay at a villa with AC, go to the car with AC, park in the building with AC, go up to the office in an elevator with AC, to the office with... yes! AC! I'm in need of some fresh air!

Ramadan starts next week already. It's gonna be interesting to see what the Ramadan tents have to offer.

Otherwise I'm looking forward to tonight's HeloMoto, Motorola Event in Al-Quoz.

Today involves

Sunday, September 10, 2006

The weekend was too short.

Trilogy on Thursday night with Gabin. We were dancing for 3 hours nonstop on the rnb dancefloor. Completely exhausted after 3 hours of dancing (and 1.30h at the gym before that). Not a very good combination btw. Gym and THEN clubbing..

Friday night pool party again in Barsha with the Frenchies and Germans. People were actually calmer this time. C was there again with yet another girl. The only comment he got was:

-The guy is enjoying life.
Of course as you might expect this comment came from...
A guy.
Are you surprised?
I'm not.

What would they say if it was a girl in his place?

*
Got a comment the other day on my blog:

-You should call it "Drinks in Dubai"

Hmmm...

Je suis pas folle. Je suis fatiguée.

I think I fell out of bed this night. Or something. I'm not really myself today. Could perhaps be because of lack of sleep..? So here I am at work drinking a Redbull (!?) for breakfast, in pure desperation to wake up.

Fuck I forgot my cellphone at home.

I didn't realize to what point I am addicted to my cellphone.

I've had weird dreams lately. Involving skiing, massmurder, Mr. Pastis and old teachers. Yes in that order.

Hmm.. this doesn't make any sense.

The redbull is starting to kick in.

glassigt?

So.. Yesterday. H&M Opening Party at the Mall of Emirates.
Well. Where shall I start?
You didn't miss anything if you weren't there.
Honestly.
The store was packed with people. Fruit cocktails and canapees were served. Not that impressed. The DJ was pretty good though. They could have done so many more cool things for the opening. But hey, it's H&M we're talking about. I bought a necklace and got my 20% discount, and a free bag.

After the opening party we went to Apres to have some drinks.
Nice evening full stop.

Where are you rudolph?

This weekend I really want to go to Ski Dubai. That's one thing that you just have to try when you are here.

Skiing in the desert.
Well.
Not literally speaking.
But almost.

Ski Dubai is, for those who don't know, an indoor ski resort at Mall of the Emirates. Apparently it is supposed to be an OK skiing slope. Though nothing compared to the Alps. But hey, at least you can ski. Just next to Ski Dubai there is a restaurant called St Moritz, where you can eat cheese fondue (yumm).

Soon you don't have to leave Dubai at all. Everything will come here.

Weekend

Had a great weekend.
Dinner. Party. Martin Solveig. Dancing. Kitesurfing.
First time yesterday that I tried Kite surfing. Went with a friend that has done kite surfing for over 1 year. Got to say that I really enjoyed it! Going next weekend aswell! Though can't really say that I look as professional as the guy in the picture.. But one day maybe..?
